چکیده

The depuration effectiveness of Poliovirus 1 and HAV contaminated mussels, when subjected to flowing ozonized water, was evaluated. Mussels were experimentally contaminated and then depurated up to 72 hours using a pilot depuration system with ozone treated and untreated water. The results showed that viral infectivity titter decreased more rapidly in mussels subjected to ozonized water (from 10 4 TCID50 to 10 1,5 TCID50 per ml of Poliovirus 1 but in the following period it remained unchanged. Also HAV was detected in the mussels after 72 h of depuration.

Mini-review: Distribution of the Mediterranean Mussel Mytilus Galloprovincialis (bivalvia: Mytilidae) and Hybrids in the Northeast Pacific

The non-native Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis is broadly established in the northeast Pacific. Until recently, the coast north of Humboldt Bay, California, USA, was not considered a major zone of sympatry and hybridization with the native sibling species M. trossulus. However, M. galloprovincialis has been introduced in Washington, USA, and British Columbia, Canada, for aquacult...

Vibrio cholerae interactions with Mytilus galloprovincialis hemocytes mediated by serum components

Edible bivalves (e.g., mussels, oysters) can accumulate large amount of bacteria in their tissues and act as passive carriers of pathogens to humans. Bacterial persistence inside bivalves depends, at least in part, on hemolymph anti-bacterial activity that is exerted by both serum soluble factors and phagocytic cells (i.e., the hemocytes). It was previously shown that Mytilus galloprovincialis ...

Induction and elimination of bulky benzo[a]pyrene-related DNA adducts and 8-oxodGuo in mussels Mytilus galloprovincialis exposed in vivo to B[a]P-contaminated feed

With the aim of developing biomarkers of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) genotoxicity for biomonitoring of the marine environment, the formation of DNA adducts and oxidative DNA damage was studied in the sentinel organism Mytilus. Mussels M. galloprovincialis were exposed for 21 d to different doses of benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) (50 and 100 mg B[a]P kg–1 dry wt mussel d–1) via trophic intake....

Molecular characterisation of noroviruses detected in mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) from harvesting areas in Slovenia.

Noroviruses are a leading cause of viral gastroenteritis in humans and are responsible for many outbreaks worldwide. Mussels are one of the most important foodstuffs connected with norovirus outbreaks, also resulting in multinational dimensions. Two hundred and thirty-eight (238) samples of mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) were collected in periods between the years 2006-2008 and 2010-2012 t...
